You’ve finally gathered the courage to enter the dance studio and begin your dance journey. Bravo! You’ve taken a step toward an incredible world of dance, fun, and growth. But dancing can be intimidating! We’re here to make sure you get the most out of your dance experience.
You may be wondering… How do I prepare for my first lesson? What can I expect? Let’s ease your mind and walk you through what to wear and how to prepare.
What to Wear
It’s important to wear comfortable clothing that allows for ease of movement to your dance lessons. Having the right shoes is important as well, so you can glide across the studio with more ease. Here are some suggestions for what to wear:
- We recommend wearing clothes you feel comfortable in and are easy to move in. Workout clothes, skirts or dresses, or other non-restrictive, loose-fitting clothing all work well!
- You should wear shoes that are comfortable and won’t hurt your feet. We recommend shoes without a rubber sole so it’s easier to twirl and glide.
- Keep in mind that dance studios are usually a little chilly to keep the dancers cool so grab a sweater!
What to Expect
Attending a dance class for the first time can be nerve-wracking, but everyone starts somewhere! Here’s what you can expect from your first lesson at DWM:
- Don’t know anything about dance? No problem! Our instructors will help you figure out where you’d like to start and walk you through the basics.
- Don’t worry if you make mistakes or feel like you’re not getting it right away. It takes time and practice to become a good dancer. Don’t hesitate to ask your instructor questions or to review moves you find tricky.
- You’ll see people of all levels at our studios. Some may be more advanced and gliding across the room with ease. Others may be beginners, just like you!
- After your lesson, you’ll leave with a smile on your face and feeling more confident than ever!
Dance classes are a fun way to work out while learning a new skill. There’s a whole world of benefits to unlock through dance! The first step is taking your first lesson. You got this, FAM!
