Dance Fitness With Tony Dovolani – Abs and Core

LOSE WEIGHT AND TONE YOUR BODY WITH TONY DOVOLANI’S DANCE FITNESS TIPS!

We’re kicking off our dance fitness series with Dancing with the Stars and World Rhythm champion, Tony Dovolani.

It’s no secret that dancers have the best bodies. Just look at all the pros on Dancing with the Stars. It’s also true that dancing is a great full-body exercise that is fun and safe on the joints (if done properly).

So today our  #DWMFAM member, Tony, is going to give you some quick tips and basic exercises that you can do to lose that gut and get that six pack.

As you know, Tony had 17 different partners on the show.

“I gave them different fitness tips and wellness techniques to be able to stay healthy and live a healthy life,” said Tony of his DWTS partners.
Dancing and having a strong core go hand in hand. Your center connects your entire body and it’s imperative to have those muscles active in any dance.

Tony, with the help of Dance With Me instructors Leanne and Teresa of our SoHo dance studio, discusses the pendulum, twisting, and figure eight action used in manyballroom dances such as salsa, rumba, samba, cha cha, mambo and many more!

The pendulum action makes your pelvis move side to side, activating the oblique muscles on your sides.

The second exercise involves the twisting motion where one hip moves forward as the other moves backward. This creates a wringing motion forcing the abdominal muscles to expand and contract.

In the third exercise, we combine the first two actions to create a figure eight motion. Here the pelvis moves in a figure eight motion, rotating the hips around the spine.

The key to doing all of these exercises is to isolate the core while keeping it tight and contracted, and making sure the back is completely straight. Your center is the only thing that should be moving. Isolation and light tension are key.
