Did you know that 758 million individuals across the globe are illiterate? That’s roughly 10% of the world or 1 in 10 people! Out of those over 122 million children are illiterate as well.
Can you imagine what your life would be like if you couldn’t read? No text messages with friends, no high paying job, you couldn’t even read basic medicine instructions. Literacy can be the difference between life and death.
It’s no secret that lack of education puts a strain on our society and leads to poverty, manipulation, violence, and more. We all pay the price one way or another. Most people know this, but they don’t know what they can do to help. By educating people where they need it most, we can help change the world and invest in a better future for all. As educators and lifelong students, we understand the value of a good education.
This is where Alfalit International comes in. Founded in 1961, Alfalit International provides literacy and educational programs to the poorest and neediest populations around the world and helped over 8 million people to learn to read and write, in their own language, through our life-changing programs.

As a member of the DWMFAM, you may already know that we have partnered with Alfalit before. Proceeds from our hit theatrical production SWAY: A Dance Trilogy in Miami have gone on to help those in need of basic education.
Since then, we have decided to do more. We have decided to partner up with Alfalit and support their cause in eliminating illiteracy and providing education to those who need it most. That’s why will be hosting a special Gala on February 27th at the Hyatt Regency in Jersey City hosted by Maks and Val Chmerkovskiy, including a special never-before-seen performance. It’s going to be a memorable night with a four-course dinner, open bar, first rate entertainment, a live band, and general dancing with the entire Dance With Me family. Proceeds from the gala will benefit Alfalit and its mission to eradicate illiteracy, a cause worth supporting…and dancing for!
