Salsa Classes in Houston

Yes — most of our salsa students start as complete beginners. Your first lesson is private, so we count the basic out loud until you can hear it in the music, then add a right turn and the cross-body lead. If you can walk to a beat, you can learn salsa.

At Dance With Me Houston new students start with a $49 intro: a private lesson plus a group class or a practice party. After that, group classes are $30, practice parties $20 and private lessons $123–$155 depending on the program. Around Houston, studio group classes generally cost about $25 to $30.

The New Student Intro Package is one private dance lesson where you can learn salsa or any dance you want, plus a group class or a practice party. It can be taken solo or with a partner, so you can come alone or bring a date. There is nothing to sign on the day.

Our group lineup rotates monthly. Salsa currently comes round in the Salsa & Bachata class and in Noche Latina, which rotates salsa, bachata and merengue, on weekday evenings. Beginners start with On1, or LA style, where you break forward on the first beat — the easiest timing to hear and the one most people dance socially in Houston. Once your basic is automatic you can add On2, or New York style, in private lessons, along with Cuban casino and Colombian Cali-style turns.

Most people are comfortable leading or following a basic within three to five lessons, and can hold their own at a social after about six to eight weeks of regular classes. Adding a private lesson every week or two shortens that. Our practice parties are the rehearsal before a night out downtown.

Start with whichever music made you want to dance. Salsa is faster, travels in a line and has more turns; bachata is a slower four-count step that most people can dance by the end of one lesson. They share a group class on our calendar, and you can try both in your $49 intro.

As of October 2026: POST Houston at 401 Franklin Street hosts a free Salsa y Bachata Night on the third Thursday of each month, with a salsa class at 7 PM, and Mamajuana Café at 909 Texas Street runs a Thursday salsa night from 8 PM with an all-levels lesson. Nights change, so check with the venue first. Our own practice parties are a relaxed place to practise first.

Dance With Me Houston is in Suite 405 at M-K-T, 600 N Shepherd Drive, Houston, TX 77007, in The Heights. Parking is free across the campus; the surface lot by Building 4, off West 7th Street, is closest. We're open Monday to Friday 12 PM to 9 PM and Saturday 12 PM to 6 PM, and closed Sunday.

No. Our students range from their twenties into their eighties, and salsa is gentle on the body when it's taught with good posture and smooth footwork. We adjust turns and tempo to you, and a private lesson lets you go at exactly your own pace.

Yes. We run private salsa sessions for bachelorettes, birthdays and team events, and choreograph quinceañera court dances, at our M-K-T studio — your group, your music and one instructor.
