Sydney was an AMAZING instructor! She made us feel comfortable to mess up, ask questions, be ourselves, have fun! We love everything about it her! Sydney explained and communicated everything so well. We learned posture, marching, rocking, counting, basic steps of bachata and salsa, and how to spin each other. I learned how to follow and let my bf lead lol! It was such a great time. Clean inviting studio space. Loved all of it and receptionist has so friendly helping me with everything leading up to the appointment and welcoming our arrival! Thank you guys for the best first impression I’ve seen a studio have. As a native new Yorker who’s taken multiple dance classes and visited studios, this was truly impressive!

I finally decided to follow my dance dream and at Dance with me midtown I found the best dance studio I could ask for. I have been training with Alejandro for 8 months now and he is wonderful; he is super skilled, friendly and professional at the same time. The entire staff is amazing, I have been also training with Danai and she is a superstar, she is an amazing dancer and I am very lucky to be able to learn some dancing skills also from her. Hailey, that is at the front desk, is super sweet, welcoming and always on top of everything; she is a powerful dancer her self and gives some amazing group classes here and there. If you are looking for the best dance studio and a friendly, family like environment, look no further!!

It has been so wonderful to dance at this studio and to plan our special dance with Syndey! She choreographed an absolutely beautiful dance that met our goals and was so fun to learn and practice each time! I highly recommend Sydney to anyone looking for an instructor who will make their dance experience fun yet so worthwhile! I can’t wait to check out more of their group classes and socials, which comes with the private lessons.

Alejandro was a patient and fun instructor. I took an introductory lesson and we spent the time on the Cha Cha, American Tango, and the Semba. I loved the class, the studio and the Alejandro.

I love love love love my classes here with Danai. She’s the best teacher in the world. Very professional, attentive, fun . I came in at different times, mornings, late nights, she always gives you a 100%. Very vibrant personality . Every lesson is something new and interesting. A true high professional. Best studio and experience.
My second favorite is Alejandro. If you want to just have fun and just enjoy / learn social skills dancing he is the best.

And our Thursday unwind streching class is just my obsession.
Thank you 🤗

Wesley was an amazing teacher. We booked two back-to-back sessions for our wedding dance etc. Wesley was not just a patient, talented teacher, he took time to get to know us as a couple and used that to help us connect and feel comfortable not just dancing but enjoying each other in the process. We were surprised at the emotions we felt as we danced.
I wasn’t sure how my fiancé was going to react to the lessons and after our two hours he booked another session for us he enjoyed it so much! We will continue now with group lessons in our future! Thanks, Wesley!

I can't say enough good things about DWMM, but I wish I found this place sooner!! It all started when I first came to the city back in the fall and I was pursuing different hobbies. I was always interested in ballroom dance, but never really pursued it that much, except for in college.

I first attended a group class, since DWMM has classes every day of the week and it's nice that they're at the same time too! It took me a while for dance to grow on me and really get good. But the instructors and everyone who not only works here, but who dances here is wonderful!
I have Srna and Milijan who are both amazing at what they do and are very funny and caring. Mariam who works at the front desk is an absolute sweetheart!! Everyone is so supportive of each other and fun to talk to, this really became my second family ❤️

DWMM even invited me to come watch their Nationals competition in December, which was Winter Ball ❄️ I was so sad I couldn't compete, but I wasn't dancing long enough and they wanted to make sure I was totally prepared.

When I had to take a break from dance and couldn't dance for a while, my instructor called me just to check in on me and see how I was doing. As I wasn't dancing I felt like something was missing and I just wasn't the same person (as cliche as that might sound)!

Now I've just finished competing in my 1st ever dance competition winning 2nd place 2x in the Championship rounds!! They have a gala, theme for the competition, and it's a whole experience 😍 The competitions all have different themes. This one was 50's.

I always wanted to have something be my thing and devote all my time and energy into it and compete, and now I finally got my wish ❤️

My fiancée and I had such a wonderful experience at DWM midtown and we were so lucky to have gotten Ana as our teacher. She is an incredible dancer, so much fun and has a great sense of humor. If you are reading this and searching for a studio and instructor to help you prepare for your wedding dance, look no further. I am a horrible dancer and am as stiff as a plank of wood, but Ana was very patient and gave practical, actionable tips that made the whole experience a blast and has me so excited for my first dance. We will absolutely be returning after our wedding to learn some more dances from Ana! Thank you, Ana!!

I've been with Dance With Me for 3 and a 1/2 years now. I started at another of their studios but ended up following my instructors to Midtown. I love the studio, the staff, the instructors, and my fellow students. Can't say enough good things about them. They've truly become my DWM family ... the friendships I've made and the fun we have, along with taking lessons and competing, has truly made me happier than I've ever been.

Why Midtown Manhattan is the Heart of NYC Swing Dancing

Taking swing dance lessons in Midtown NYC means you are directly tapping into a rich, culturally significant New York tradition. Located at the crossroads of the city’s historic theater and entertainment districts, our Midtown studio honors American swing history while making it highly accessible for modern New Yorkers.

Whether you are walking over after work in the Garment District or taking the subway from uptown, you aren’t just learning steps; you are moving to the heartbeat of the city’s authentic jazz heritage.

Lindy Hop vs. West Coast Swing: Which NYC Classes Match Your Style?

When searching for swing dance lessons in NYC, you will quickly notice that “swing” is an umbrella term. We teach multiple variations at Dance With Me Midtown, but the two most popular styles are completely different in their music, mechanics, and overall vibe. To ensure you find the perfect match, let’s break down the core differences:

Lindy Hop & East Coast Swing Classes: Classic Jazz & Big Band

Lindy Hop is the granddaddy of all swing dances. It is a highly energetic, rotational dance that utilizes both 6 and 8-count patterns alongside fast-paced footwork. If you want to dance to classic jazz tunes, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and upbeat big band music, Lindy Hop is your match.

For absolute beginners, we often start with East Coast Swing, a slightly simplified 6-count foundational dance that gets you moving to the music immediately. Both styles have a joyful, bouncy aesthetic that encourages playfulness and vintage style.

Our East Coast Swing & Lindy Hop Lessons: The Classic 6-Count & 8-Count Styles

In stark contrast, West Coast Swing (WCS) is characterized by a smooth, elastic, and linear movement (often called “slotting”). Instead of vintage jazz, WCS is primarily danced to contemporary music—think modern R&B, hip-hop, blues, pop, and acoustic tracks.

It is a highly improvisational dance that feels incredibly conversational between the leader and follower. If you want a style that you can dance to whatever is playing on the radio today, West Coast Swing is the sleek, modern groove you are looking for. (Be sure to ask about our dedicated West Coast Swing Bootcamps and Whip-ology workshops!)

What to Expect at Your First Midtown NYC Swing Lesson

Taking your first steps onto a professional ballroom floor can feel slightly intimidating, but our Midtown Manhattan community is famously welcoming. Let’s demystify your first visit so you can focus entirely on having fun:

FAQ: Swing dance lessons

Absolutely not! No partner needed is the golden rule of our studio and the broader social dance community. In our group classes and social dance events, rotating partners is standard practice. It is highly encouraged to show up solo.

At Dance With Me SoHo, you can start with a $49 Intro Special. Book your class today!

Right here at Dance With Me SoHo (676 Broadway). We host dedicated West Coast Swing bootcamps, “Whip-ology” workshops, and regular social parties specifically tailored for modern WCS dancers.

For absolute beginners, a structured but highly supportive environment is key. An introductory private lesson at Dance With Me SoHo is the absolute best way to learn the basic 6-count footwork without any pressure, followed by transitioning into our beginner-friendly group classes.

Yes! While rotating is the norm in most group classes, couples can absolutely take private lessons tailored specifically for them. A private session is a fantastic way for couples to enjoy an intimate, shared hobby without rotating partners, or to prepare a routine for a special event.

We usually recommend starting with social dancing basics like the Rumba, Salsa, or the Foxtrot. These styles teach fundamental rhythm and basic partner connection, making it easier to learn other styles later.

We recommend wearing comfortable clothing that doesn’t restrict your movement—think athletic wear or comfortable casual wear. Avoid overly tight skirts or stiff suits. For shoes, wear something comfortable with a smooth sole. You do not need professional dance shoes for your first lesson.

Yes. Dance With Me  provides private choreography sessions for weddings and special events, creating routines tailored to your song and style.

Yes, our Social Styles curriculum covers a wide variety of dances built for connection and rhythm, including Hustle and Bachata. (Whatever the style, our focus is always on making you feel confident and joyful on the floor).
